Tuesday, July 17 Segment A: LIFE SENTENCE Former Norfolk State University professor Yacob Hailemariam was among 38 opposition leaders convicted this week in Ethiopia of crimes against that country's government . International human rights groups are condemning the trial as an attempt to silence government critics, and opposition leaders claim it was politically motivated. We have the latest details and talk with Hailemariam's former colleague, Dr. Berhanu Mengistu, Professor in the Department of Urban Studies & Public Administration at Old Dominion University.
Segment B: BRACtion PLAN BRAC, the Base Closure and Realignment Commission, became quite a household acronym in our region when it added Hampton's Fort Monroe to its roster of military facilities slated for closure. On this segment of HearSay, a conversation about two issues communities face as part of the process- the cost of environmental cleanup and, on the flip side, schools impacted by BRAC growth as other communities prepare to receive a surge of military personnel and their families.
