WHRV 89.5FM TO PRESENT LOCAL ACOUSTIC MUSIC
November 16th Broadcast to Feature Live Performances
Norfolk: WHRV 89.5FM, a member of the WHRO family of programming, has scheduled a live performance on Sunday, November 16th, from 6 to 9pm.
Always a champion of the local folk scene, folk music producer and program host Dr. Barry Graham has invited some of his favorite area performers to come into the studio with him and celebrate the music by playing and singing live, in a Live…Acoustic from WHRV special.
Appearing on the special will be:
Skip Friel – a spirited performer who captures the art and joy of music. Skip’s recent album, Twilight Red Sky, features finely-crafted originals that are uplifting, inspiring, and go straight to the heart.
Zach Parkman - originally from the Gulf Coast of Texas, Zach performed in East Texas and Louisiana before moving to Hampton Roads. His first full-length studio album is due out in 2009.
Ron Fetner – incorporating elements of folk, southern Appalachian, roots and jazz, Ron’s taken top honors at the prestigious Kerrville NewFolk competition, Doc Watson's/Merlefest Chris Austin Song Contest and the Songwriters Association of Washington’s Mid-Atlantic Song Contest.
Narissa Bond - her music finds strength in contradiction. She crafts beautiful, reassuring songs out of life's most daunting pains. The key to the music's transcendence lies with her lithe vocals which handle tough subjects with uncommon delicacy.
Duncan and Danielle – they blend acoustic folk-rock style with some electric blues thrown in, featuring tight vocal harmonies, acoustic-electric guitar work by Duncan and extraordinary flute playing by Danielle.
Graham, who produces and hosts WHRV’s popular Sunday night lineup of folk and bluegrass music, said, “This showcase allows the listener to experience the incredible talent that exists locally with these singer-songwriters. Some of the performers are known nationally.. like Ron Fetner and Narissa Bond. There's a fine tradition of opening the doors to the WHRV studios to allow local musicians the opportunity to get their music on the airwaves. Countless regional artists have appeared on Acoustic Highway – the music is local, it's authentic, and it's just perfect for WHRV-FM and all lovers of acoustic music.”
