In Memory of Taylor Green
WHRO has lost a member of our family – Taylor Green, one of WHRO-FM’s finest and best-loved announcers. He died peacefully on Saturday, November 22, after a short illness.
Taylor’s love for classical music developed while he was attending East Carolina University, where he discovered the joys of great music under the guidance of the late Professor James Rees. Taylor was hired by Vianne Webb to work at classical station WGH-FM in the 1970’s. When WGH-FM changed formats, Taylor found a home at classical station WFLN in Philadelphia. When WFLN too changed formats, Taylor came back to Hampton Roads, reunited with Vianne Webb, Raymond Jones and Dwight Davis, helping to make WHRO-FM one of the best classical music stations in the country.
Taylor’s love for music was always evident and he delighted in discovering new classical, Broadway and film music. Always evident also was a joie de vivre and usually a bon mot or bad pun. His “Afternoon Delights” on WHRO-FM was put together with a deft hand and a keen understanding of music and radio.
He will be missed by all those at WHRO and his many listeners.
