On this week’s Pickin' on WHRV, we combine the classic with the contemporary. We’ll listen to the Old Train release from the Seldom Scene. The 1974 album features the original band line up of John Starling, John Duffy, Ben Eldridge and Mike Auldridge. Ricky Skaggs performed on fiddle and Linda Ronstadt provided backing vocals. Old Train is hailed as a classic release from the band and is still regarded as a defining bluegrass album. We’ll also hear from one of the hottest bluegrass bands performing today with music from the Steep Canyon Rangers. Once a largely known regional band from Asheville, North Carolina, they catapulted to fame when they opened for Steve Martin when he went out on tour. Their 2019 North Carolina Songbook release earned them a Grammy nomination. Hear the classic and the contemporary on this week’s Pickin'. And through your support of WHRV, you can pick up copies of these two albums. Tune in to Pickin', Sunday night at 7:00 on WHRV.

You can also listen live online or through the WHRO app.
